The Union government is to expedite the delayed road projects in the country. At least 87 NH projects are running behind schedule, and in some cases the delay is more than seven years.
Fed up with with the tardy progress of highway construction, the Hghways Ministry has started a state-wise review of progress - starting with Uttar Pradesh - to expedite the unfinished task that has led to huge time overrun and cost escalation.
Strict instructions have been issued to all government officials and private contractors to complete the delayed projects within the revised deadline. A review of all the 11 NH projects in UP were discussed at a meeting, chaired by Highways Minister CP Joshi last week.
Most of these projects are delayed beyond three years. Agra-Sikohabad (50.83km) is the worst affected stretch since it is running 87 months behind schedule.
