GESCOM to spend Rs 238 cr to cut losses

To improve its financial performance and reduce power and transmission losses, the  Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) in Karnataka is introducing a series of measures. For this, GESCOM is to get a total of Rs 238.16 crore under the programme.    GESCOM is one of the five region-wise power distribution companies in Karnataka under the State government's ambit. The State government has selected a total of 21 towns in GESCOM limits for the implementation.    These steps are being taken under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP). According to the Power Finance Corporation, the R-APDRP seeks to address the issue of building the baseline data, including meter data acquisition.    Once the aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses ascertained, the issue of power system upgradation and modernisation will be addressed. The work is in progress in towns under GESCOM.    The projects under the programme are being executed in two parts - Part-A and Part-B. GESCOM will get a total of Rs 238.16 crore under the programme. Of Rs 37.37 crore sanctioned for Part-A works, Rs 11.20 crore have been released.    For Part B works, Rs 200.79 crore have been sanctioned, of which Rs 30.11 crore have been released by the Centre and state governments.
