Kerala government has decided to construct Eroor-Mathoor railway overbridge at Mathur Junction in Eroor, the State Excise Minister K Babu has said. The decision was taken after the meeting of the officials of the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (RBDC), Public Works Department, Kochi Refinery and the Municipality, he said at the inauguration of the construction work of the Andhakarathodu bridge near the Hill Palace Police Station in Tripunithura.
.
Babu said that the work will be done under the aegis of RBDC and the land acquisition for the overbridge at Eroor would be conducted by the Municipal authorities. The total cost of the project will be Rs 41 crore, of which Rs 12.5 crore will be funded by Kochi Refinery.
Public Works Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju, who inaugurated the work, said that agitations against toll collection were a major roadblock for allocation of NHAI’s road development projects to the state.
The UDF Government was keen to solve the problems faced by people regarding toll collection, he added. Earlier, toll could be collected for the bridges constructed for Rs 1 crore and above. But now the policy has changed and bridges that are constructed spending Rs 5 crore and above only come under the toll purview.
