By September 2013, authorities expect the Rs 28 crore Moharda Drinking Water Project in Jharkhand, which was delayed for almost five years, may be commissioned.
The government started work on this project in 2005 in order to supply drinking water through pipelines to over 1.5 lakh people at their residences in the eastern part of Jamshedpur.
The project, which was scheduled for completion in three years, got delayed for nearly five years owing to political instability, reports suggest.
The state government prepared the first detailed project report (DPR) for the Moharda project in 1998 but was subsequently amended following its review in 2005.
The project, that has in-built capacity to supply 5.5 million litres per day, has a weir, seven towers, a filtration plant and an intake well.
There was a delay in the construction of a weir (smaller than the size of dam and built to collect water) across Subarnarekha river.
While the project is being commissioned by the drinking water and sanitation department, the water resources department is setting up the weir.
The state government urged officials in the water resources department to complete the remaining work in four months time. It is learnt that around 40 km area is left for laying the pipeline.
