In Nashik, Crompton Greaves (CG) has set up a 1,600 kV ultra high voltage (UHV) research centre at its switchgear complex at a cost of Rs 40 crore. The centre is to focus on development of high power sub-station equipment such as circuit breakers, gas insulated switchgear, instrument transformers and surge arresters.
The company said that India, South America and Africa are the prime markets for these products.
In these countries, very high voltage transmission networks is present, the company said. The centre will facilitate new product development for the global UHV/EHV (extra high voltage) markets, spanning 800 kV to 1200 kV transmission systems.
