Bihar may get additional 330 mw power by Oct

As Bihar is likely to get an additional 330 mw of power from the NTPC's Barh super thermal power plant (STPP) stage-II from October this year, Bihar State Power (Holding) Company (BSPHCL) will not have to buy additional power at a premium rate from the open market to meet the additional demand during the festive season.

Bihar has been allocated 2,216 mw of power, including 1,834 mw from the central sector. From October onwards, Bihar will get 2,546 mw of power. NTPC will try to generate 660 mw of power from Barh STPP (stage-II) unit one before the beginning of the festival season, said a senior NTPC official. Bihar would get 50 per cent of the total power generated from stage II.

The project will fulfil the power needs of Bihar to a large extent. This prestigious project's first unit of stage-II is scheduled to be commissioned in October 2013. Finally, Bihar would be allotted a total of 660 mw from stage-II and 523 mw from stage-I by 2015, Garbhyal said.
