Centre is not in a hurry to set up coal regulator. The Government of India plans to fast track auctioning of coal blocks to the private sector even in the absence of a coal regulator. These coal blocks would be put up for e-auction by December 2014. The Coal Regulatory Authority (CRA) Bill of 2013 is yet to get the parliament nod. The role of the coal regulator as defined in the bill is to look into coal pricing.
