Union Textiles Minister KS Rao has recently said in Mumbai that the textile industry in the country should take initiative to set up captive power plants, training facilities and R&D centres to solve the problems of the industry.
The Minister was addressing an industry seminar at the fifth edition of the FICCI-TAG 2013 summit last week. Rao described this as the golden period for the Indian textiles industry. He said the textile industry could seek help from the Central and State governments to set up captive power plants, training facilities and R&D centres.
Labour laws need to be revised and a 24-hour work shift as well as night shift for women should be permitted in the textiles industry, the Minister stated.
