The Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has said on October 15 that the 2013 land acquisition Act will come into force from January 1. The Act has been touted by the United Progressive Alliance as seller-friendly and by most business lobbies as industry unfriendly, say media reports.
According to Ramesh, the draft rules, which explain the process of implementation of the law, have been put up on the ministry's website with comments invited from various stake holders—industry, non-governmental organisations, and others.
For 45 days, comments will be accepted, after that, the rules will be published in the gazette, the Minister said, adding that he will hold separate meetings with State revenue ministers, industry representatives and non-governmental organizations to discuss the rules in the next few weeks.
