Councilors unable to use Rs 50 cr fund

The councilors belonging to over 100 wards are unable to use the Rs 50 crore allotted for developmental works by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the 2011-12 budget because the wards are in unauthorized colonies.

In addition to this, a fund of Rs 10 lakh has been allotted for providing civic amenities in such colonies but none of the money has been used by MCD. MCD cannot carry out any developmental work in unauthorized colonies.

Even basic road repairs cannot be carried out in such wards. Funds were allotted for developmental work in such wards but the money is lying unused, said deputy chairman of MCD standing committee Sarita Chaudhary.
