The Centre has accorded 'in-principle' approval to the Rs 3,267 crore Chennai Monorail project proposed by the Tamil Nadu Government. The project would cover 20.68 km length between Poonamalle and Kathipara and from Porur to Vadapalani in Chennai. The implementation of this project is planned under Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model. No financial support will be provided from the Centre for this project. The funding will be either from the state government, state government agencies or the PPP partner.
