Keeping in view of the faltering economy of the country, the The State-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) has begun the austerity drive. It will now cut the foreign tours of senior officials and internal travels for training purposes, as part of its austerity measures. Airlines are also looking at all steps to save money, AAI said. Free-falling rupee and a massive hike in operating costs have forced the aviation industry to go for a major economy drive.
AAI said that it is going to drastically clamp down on foreign trips and internal tours. All expenses that can be curtailed like number of cars being used by AAI across the country will be targeted. There is no early sign on recovery in travel. Overall, travel numbers are down by 2.5 per cent and AAI's revenues are hit. However, passenger services will remain the same and flyers will not feel the pinch of our drive, it added.
