The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has put the next December as the deadline to begin work on the Lucknow metro rail project. To meet the deadline, the High Power Committee (HPC) of the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani, will meet on October 29. The State has planned the Lucknow metro to begin operations by 2016.
The October 29 meet is to set in motion the process of finalising tender-related documents and awarding of work contracts, say media reports.
The Lucknow metro cell would be able to float tenders for construction work only after HPC's nod following the meeting, which will be chaired by senior officials from departments such as finance, industry, urban development, housing and urban planning, public works and power, among others.
According to sources, the committee will also discuss the changes, as per the directives laid out by the government on India, made in the Detail Project Report of Lucknow metro rail. The DPR was prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and in which the Centre had asked to incorporate various transport systems as feeder service to connect the metro with different parts of the city.
