Assam was facing a shortfall of 403 mw in power supply during the peak load hours on May 7. Its off peak load hours’ shortfall was 232 mw during the day. The shortfall faced by the State in power supply these days is due to the reduced generation in the hydel and thermal power stations of the region together with its failure to draw power from outside the region.
The peak load hours’ power demand of the State on May 7 was 1,100 mw against the availability of 697 mw of power. Its off peak load hour power demand on May 7 was 720 mw, against the availability of 488 mw.
According to sources in Assam Power Distribution Company (APDCL) the Assam Power Generation Company Ltd (APGCL) supplied 174 mw of power to the APDCL during the off peak load hours, while it supplied 230 mw of power to the State power distribution company during the peak load hours.
During the off peak load hours during the day, the APDCL received 176 mw of power from the Central Sector Generating Stations (CSGS) of the NE region and during the peak load hours it received 332 mw of power from these CSGS.
