Kerala to revive Kodungallur port at Rs 45 cr

The Kerala Ports Department is to revive the ancient port town of Kodungallur. Once, it was a thriving trade centre. Now the Kerala government wants to bring back the port's old glory. Work on the port will soon begin in a 60-acre area.    In the port, the jetty is already deep enough and is considered ideal for handling containers from Gujarat and Maharashtra and other locations in Kerala.    The Kerala government has sanctioned Rs 45 crore to construct a cargo wharf in the first phase, the government said. The department has already identified 40 acres of revenue land to set up the project while an additional 20 acres will be reclaimed from the river for construction purposes.
