30-km inner ring road and 52-km monorail approved for Pune

A high-capacity mass transit route (HCMTR) for the execution of the inner ring road" and a monorail above the same ring road have got approvals from the BOT committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

A 22-km monorail has also been approved between Warje and Kharadi will be 52 km with 30 km coming above the inner ring road. These projects are proposed to be carried out on a design-build-operate-own-transfer (DBOOT) model.

The decision, in effect, is a follow-up of the 1987 development plan of Pune which had a plan of a high capacity mass transit route connecting Bopodi and Hadapsar. At this time, there was a need to execute an "inner ring road" project linking various thoroughfares within the municipal limits.
