Rs 500 crore worth new units have commenced production at IISCO Steel Plant of the Steel Authority of India at Burnpur in West Bengal. The new units are part of a Rs 16,000 crore modernisation programme that is in the final stages of completion.
The plant in post modernisation will produce 2.9 million tonne of hot metal. The major facilities will include a new seven metre tall coke oven battery (COB); two sinter machines, a new blast furnace of 4060 cubic metre volume with top pressure recovery turbine, three 150-tonne basic oxygen furnace converters.
