The new industrial policy 2013 of the West Bengal government is to offer facilitation for mega projects. Even the state industry praised the waiver of stamp duty and other business friendly measures announced in the policy. The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Kallol Datta said that it is a forward looking and pragmatic policy.
The Bengal Chamber feels the final policy will boost investments to a great extent as the number of incentives in terms of VAT refunds, waiver of stamp duty, registration and electricity duty have been exhaustively offered.
How ever, some industrialists pointed that there was no further detail on specific areas of facilitation at a time when industry was scouting for State intervention on land acquisition, saying that it was not possible to acquire large tracts of land without government support. NTPC officials said if the State government offered proper facilitation then mobilisation could be made for the land needed for the proposed 1,320 mw power plant at Katwa.
