Chairman of Indian Wind PowerAssociation Kasthoori Rangaian informed that Andhra Pradesh has potential to develop about 15,000 mw of windpower but there are some roadblocks to attain it.
Among the major hindrances are lower tariffstructure, clearances and need for power purchase agreements,he said.
The state offers a tariff of Rs 3.50 per unitwhich is nearly Rs 2 less than what the Central Electricity RegulatoryCommission had recommended, sources said.
In an interview to a leading daily, Rangaian saidseveral businessmen from Andhra Pradesh have set up wind farms in other states but havenot implemented them in AP. This is in spite of their keenness to set upprojects. But are faced with issues such as lower tariff and need for powerpurchase agreements.
In a positive development, the state RegulatoryCommission recently notified renewable power purchase obligation andaccreditation of renewable energy generators. This move would enable powerproducers get renewable energy certifications and later allow them to tradethem through exchanges.
