For Manipur, the Union Ministry for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has given approval for construction of roads and bridges under the 7th phase of Prime Minister Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY), 2012-13. According to official sources, altogether 45 roads and 44 bridges would be constructed and for this an amount of Rs 254.1 crore has been approved by the Ministry.
The approval was granted by the Ministry on May 14 last.
The Ministry gave the approval for construction of 274 roads under phase 5, 6 and 7 of PMGSY at a total estimated cost of Rs 747.67 crore, the source disclosed, adding that altogether 80 roads and bridges are being constructed currently.
Under PMGSY phase Nine,164 roads are also being planned to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 666 crore and under the phase Ten, 165 are set to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 774 crores.
However, the Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has not given its approval as yet, the source added.
The source further disclosed that in connection with execution of these works, altogether 140 staffs would be appointed very soon to strengthen the functioning of Manipur State Rural Road Development (MSRDF).
