Riding on the success of its 1-mw canal-top solar project, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam (SSNNL) in Gujarat has now completed plans to set up a 10 mw solar power generation plant on the Sardar Sarovar canal. Gujarat Energy Minister Saurabh Patel stated that the 1-mw canal-top project became operational last year and it is highly successful. Now the State plans to replicate the success with a bigger, 10-mw project, on the Narmada canal, he said.
On the location of the proposed solar plant, the Minister said that it has not been finalised yet, but it is expected to come up in Vadodara district. SSNNL, which is developing the multi-thousand km-long canal network to take irrigation water to parched areas of Saurashtra and Kutch, will invest around Rs 120 crore for the 10-mw solar power project.
Patel said that the 10-MW plant will generate around 16 million units of electricity every year, which will be fed into the grid.
