According to government data, point to point rate of inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI)-Agricultural Labourers and CPI-Rural Labourers increased from 4.92 percent and 5.27 percent in January, 2012 to 6.34 percent and 6.68 percent respectively in February, 2012.
Inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI-RL are 2.55 percent and 2.72 percent respectively during February, 2012.
Data showed that the All-India CPI Numbers for AL and RL for February, 2012 increased 3 points and 4 points respectively to stand at 621 points for AL and 623 points for RL.
The rise or fall in index varied from state to state. In case of AL, it recorded an increase between 1 to7 points in 18 states and a decrease of 1 and 2 points in 2 states. Maharashtra with 691 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 512 points stood at the bottom.
In case of RL, it recorded an increase between 2 to7 points in 16 states and a decrease of 5 points in 1 state.
It, however, remained stationary in 3 states. Haryana and Maharashtra with 683 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of531 points stood at the bottom.
The Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers in respect of Uttar Pradesh and Rural Labourers in respect of Rajasthan registered the maximum increase of 7 points each mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, bajra, milk, mustard oil, chillies dry and vegetables & fruits.
