Mah govt clears rehab package of Tata Power's Shahapur plant

A high-powered group of secretaries formed by the Maharashtra government has cleared Tata Power Company's (TPC) compensation and rehabilitation package for the Shahapur plant in Raigad.

The rehabilitation package offers much more than what the state's parameters prescribe. All the norms set were met like compensation for land at mutually-agreed rates and jobs to locals. Apart from these, TPC has also offered to set up a hospital, school and a state-of-the-art pollution control facility.

As per sources, the plant was on the fast-track, the actual work on the plant will begin in early 2011 and Phase I of the 1,600 MW would be commissioned within 24 months.
